Aug 4 2017 Breakfast & Biz: Is your body language speaking? |
Come join the Chamber for an interactive discussion on:
- Why good communication skills involve more than articulate speech;
- How leaders define the workplace culture based on the way they communicate with others;
- Recognizing true communication and listening; learning to recognize the difference and waiting on your turn to speak.
The Chamber is excited to welcome Dr. Yvette Rice, president of LLVE, LLC. She uses her visionary leadership ability, training expertise, and motivational/inspirational speaking skills to help others realize their true capabilities and maximize their potential. Serving as a leader in the marketplace, Rice has more than 30 years combined experience as an engineer, project leader, manager and trainer for the Department of Defense (civilian), the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a government contractor, and multiple non-profit organizations. She has trained both nationally and internationally, working with individuals and organizations to raise their level of potential and excellence.
Rice has a bachelor of science in petroleum engineering from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, and a master's and doctoral degree in theology from the North Carolina College of Theology in Wilmington, N.C.

Aug 29 2017 YP Leadership Luncheon - August |
Decatur is a destination community for young professionals, and communication is critical. But how can YPs get plugged in and connect?
John Joseph has served as director of Decatur Corridor Development, Inc., since January 2015. In the role, he's responsible for identifying, prioritizing, and executing projects that help lay the foundation for long-term growth in the Morgan County area. With a background in development, he has focused on real estate and more than 25 projects that significantly improve quality of life and enhance economic competitiveness in our area. Among his work, he is responsible for the Best and Brightest Initiative, the first comprehensive incentive package in the country for the recruitment of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) young professionals, collaboration with the City of Decatur to become the first city in the state to take the Small Business Administration's "Startup In A Day" pledge, and coordinated the founding committee of the Alabama Arts Hall of Fame - the first in the state - and transitioned operations to The Alabama Center for the Arts.
Joseph has an undergraduate degree from the University of Mississippi in Oxford and a law degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. He and his family live in Decatur. He will share his thoughts on opportunities and challenges for area YPs, as well has how to contribute to our community's development.
The YP Leadership Luncheon series is an opportunity for members of the under-40 crowd across Morgan County to both connect and socialize while developing their leadership skills. This one-hour program coincides with the traditional lunch hour where attendees can enjoy lunch and develop their careers and community.
We are excited to continue this series for our young professional community and we encourage you to bring guests and co-workers. YP Leadership Luncheon is presented by Ascend Performance Materials with lunch sponsored by Indorama Ventures.
Tickets for the event are $10 for Chamber members and $15 for non-members, which includes lunch. (to confirm your membership, click here). Seating for this event is limited, so we encourage you to make your reservation soon.
